Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

As any major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a demand for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason cinema institutions don’t do it. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
