A extended voyage through the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an senior lady who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the personnel realised the lady was missing.

A major search operation located her body the next day.

Officials are investigating the tragedy, together with law enforcement and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that travelers and staff on the vessel were told that the remainder of the cruise had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous engine troubles".
